A free Sierra-style indie game

The Telwynium is a free adventure video game wherein you must keep watch on the first night away from home. Developed by Powerhoof, this is a 2D pixelated indie game that offers classic point-and-click gameplay that’s nostalgic for fans of Sierra games.

Similar to Intergalactic Wizard Force, The Telwynium has you easily completing its puzzles with just the use of your mouse cursor. Instead of a space-based adventure, though, you get to explore a dark fantasy world where danger lurks everywhere. It can be as tricky as the old-school games but there’s thankfully a walkthrough included in the game folder.

Keep an eye out

In the medieval world of The Telwynium, you get to play as a boy named Pendar Calden. Unfortunately, his beloved village of Willows Dene had been attacked by the dreaded Shadowfell. The powerful Autumn-Aldor Dwinn came to their rescue but with the situation dire as it is, Pendar and his friends—as well as other characters—fled from the scene and came to rest in a forest

Take note that this is only Book One: Winter's Dawn so the story isn’t complete yet once you finish the game. You’ll have to check back for updates. The game controls are easy to understand, though, despite the lack of an in-game tutorial. You can left-click on anything and your interaction with them depends on the current cursor icon—such as walking for the Boot and examining for the Gauntlet.

In case you ever get stuck on the puzzles, you can take a peek at the included walkthrough file for hints. This game is highly similar to Sierra SCI0 games like Quest for Glory and King’s Quest. Even the text for examining objects is descriptive and is your personal narrator to the events that occurred to Pendar and his hapless party. Everything here very much encourages you to explore to the fullest.

Highly nostalgic

Overall, The Telwynium is a nice homage to old point-and-click games—especially the Sierra titles that popularized this gameplay mechanic. It doesn’t have a tutorial when you start but the nature of the game actively encourages you to explore the controls and just what you can do in its world so it’s not too bad. Additionally, you even get a helpful walkthrough to solve those tricky puzzles.
